The fearless World Champion that rolled over!
Colin McRae may have been World Champion just 1 time but he left us wonderful memories of his fights in the WRC. With a unique driving style and a fearless aggressiveness, the flying Scotsman had the makings of a great champion!
At the Cyprus Rally in 2002, McRae started out strong and holding off Gronholm until he crashed near a bridge where his Ford Focus rolled over several times. Still, he didn’t give up and accelerated hard to keep the Finnish from getting away.
To get as many points as possible he raced hard but overturned again...Bewildered, McRae & Grist were back on the road, but in the opposite direction!
Fortunately they quickly realized this and got back in the right direction, finishing in 6th place.
This is yet another special moment in motorsports history, and Colin McRae’s claim to fame as a legend!
